Formica Design a Laminate
Challenge
To engage a diverse design audience in appreciating and understanding the opportunities of using Formica laminate in their designs. Laminate is in essence paper therefore anything you can print on paper you can make into a laminate.
Solution
The Think Tank devised a competition and asked designers to design what they would like to see in laminate. This ran over three years and was judged by prestigious interior designers.
Results
Received up to 1,800 entries per year from across the UK. Designers from all around the world wished to enter. The quality of design was so high that a book of the top 200 designs was published each year and distributed to customers and the media. The success of the UK initiative led to it being replicated in the US and the Far East. It created significant brand awareness for the product and its possibilities.
