Fancy a free range loaf?

Monday, 4th March 2013 at 1:07pm

Abbots village bakeryabbotts village bakeryAustralian bread company Abbott's Village Bakery has released a new TV advert that is a bit on the unusual side. The advert sounds like it should be for lamb or some other meat product, not bread, Quite frighteningly it  shows giant loaves frolicking in fields and being fed grain.

It is all very surreal, the voice over stating "It may seem a little strange to some, but for us free range is the only way to raise bread,"

Even on their Facebook page they state, "We like to shower our loaves with love, let them roam free and grow up in their own unique little way. It's what makes every loaf special."

It would seem that they want to come across as a speciality or artisan style baker, producing 'farmhouse' style breads, all the while taking time and care to produce a better tasting product, even if it does bleat at you and jump around the room!

Take a look at the advert below.

Living the dream in a cloud

Sunday, 24th June 2012 at 6:04pm

Cloud HouseCloud HouseCloud HouseWhy build your house as a box when you could be living in a cloud?

McBride Charles Ryan is the architectural practice behind this cloud-shaped addition to an Edwardian residence in Australia.

This beautiful structure is in stark contrast to the front view of the property.

The architects commmented, “The form of the ‘cloud’ conforms to setback regulations without appearing obviously determined by them. The extrusion creates a dramatic interior language where walls merge seamlessly with the floor and ceiling. The craftsmanship is remarkable throughout; it has a sense of care one typically associates with the work of a cooper or wheelwright. While the geometry is playful, the extrusion is essentially a contemporary barrel vault.”

Toads take to the screen in Ford ad

Saturday, 5th May 2012 at 8:48am

Ford Advertising
This Australian ad for Ford brings two new stars to our screens - native cane toads.

Produced by JWT Melbourne it is quite humorous and reminiscent of the old Budweiser ads that ran some years ago putting toads (or were they frogs) in the limelight.

Enjoy.

b.e. Architecture: Down Under

Monday, 31st January 2011 at 3:23am

b.e. Architecture Down Under.jpgWhat happens when the concept of bookends meets architecture? The Tivoli Road house in Melbourne Australia.

Located on an exposed corner, this building is a private residence and was built as a means of creating both visual and acoustic privacy for the residents. The locally sourced bluestone material chosen for the building has visually created a seamless construction with low production costs.  Where the bluestone is used externally, timber is deployed so internally at the request of the client. The wooden cranked Blackwood stair is one of the most interesting design elements to this building, creating a modern reference to the traditional spiral staircase.

b.e Architecture  with Good Constructions have made interesting use of filtered lighting throughout the site; internal light courts being used to filter the light within the interior.  To view photographic examples of this light optimisation in action, view arch daily.
