Phew, good thing the creative industries are protected from the robots, eh? I mean, there’s no way advertising can be automated by AI… right?

Well, Chinese conglomerate Alibaba Group has introduced AI Copywriter, a programme that can write 20000 lines of advertising copy in a second. That’s around, erm, 19999 more lines of advertising copy a typical human can write.

The super-smart technology works by processing millions of lines of existing copy on Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms, including Tmall, Taobao, 1688.com and Mei.com.

Businesses that advertise on these platforms can simply click a button to view a list of advertising ideas generated by the software. The tool is already being used around a million times daily by small and mid-size companies.

Christina Lu, a marketing manager at Alibaba (is her job under threat too?), said: ‘All the content produced by the AI Copywriter is the result of applying deep learning models, trained with large volumes of quality content created by humans.’
