When the Rain Stops Falling

Wednesday, 8th June 2022 at 2:57pmWhen the Rain Stops Falling

Perhaps we are a little biased but when it comes to creativity, we like to think of ourselves as the experts – both in the office and out. When we’re not busy crafting campaigns for our delightful clients, we can often be found indulging in our own separate artistic endeavours, whether that be painting, strumming on a guitar or as the case may be for our PPC and paid social media manager, Laura Ilica, directing a play.

A drama graduate, Laura’s love for acting and directing hasn’t diminished despite her passion for all things digital advertising. When asked “do you have any plans for the weekend?” she enjoys nothing more than speaking proudly of her involvement with her local theatre. “‘I’m rehearsing for a play I’m directing’ – I like saying that. That’s why I do theatre in my free time."

When the Rain Stops Falling, written by Andrew Bovell, follows a family across a period of eighty years, from an oppressive London flat in 1959 to the coast of Southern Australia in 2013 and beyond our own timelines, into the Australian desert in 2039. The story explores the impact of betrayal, love and abandonment as seven people struggle to reconnect and discover how the mysteries of their past could impact their futures.

Under the direction of the very talented Laura, The Company of Players has taken Bovell’s script and brought it to life in what is bound to be a heartrending and exceptionally moving performance.

We interviewed the creative genius behind the production and this is what Laura had to say:

"When the Rain Stops Falling is a wonderful, wonderful text that brought tears to our eyes when we first read it. We get to see glimpses of the characters’ lives over the years and see how they deal with grief, pain, love and a lack of it. I still get goosebumps during rehearsals and watching some of the scenes, although I must have seen this show on different stages at least a hundred times by now.

"I have a very talented cast – as good as you can find in any theatre in London – and I was helped by a wonderful team that put together complex projections, lighting and sound to support this production.

"We have very few tickets left. As I’m writing this there are only 17 tickets available over two dates: the 14th and 15th. So… hurry up? If the above hasn’t convinced you, then there’s a pub about three minutes from the theatre where we usually end up."

When the Rain Stops Falling is running from 8th – 16th June at The Little Theatre in Hertford. If you would like to see the show then the few tickets that are left are available to purchase by telephone, email or online through company’s website.

Jesper, one of The Think Tank’s resident copywriters, has been lucky enough to bag himself a ticket and will be reviewing the performance in the coming weeks. However, if you’re feeling impatient and can't wait to read Jesper's response then check out the trailer below for a glimpse into what you can expect from Laura and her team’s hard work.
