Learn how to optimise your personal or company profile with our best practice tips.
Don’t let anyone kid you – whether you’re promoting yourself or your business, LinkedIn should still be the first port of call for B2B marketers. 930 million users in over 200 countries don’t lie, especially since 80% of LinkedIn members hold decision-making roles within their business.
But how can you get the most from your LinkedIn marketing strategy? Simple: start with the basics. We’re sharing five of our top tips to give you the very best chance of increasing your engagements and growing your following on LinkedIn.
Tip 1: Complete your profile
Whether or not it’s your personal profile or the company page, complete profiles get 30% more weekly views than ones that are missing information.
On your own profile, a high quality headshot, relevant headline and snappy personal bio are essential, as is including your key skills, endorsements and recommendations. The best way of promoting your company page is by ensuring the brand logo and imagery is present and correct, along with an ‘about’ section that gets across your elevator pitch.
Tip 2: Make yourself seen
A sure way to make your presence known on LinkedIn is to like, comment and share others’ posts on a frequent basis, especially when you or your company have been tagged. The more involved in the conversation you are, the more regularly you’ll pop up on people’s feeds, so think about posting a few times a week to maximise your visibility.
Another way to achieve visibility is by using hashtags linked to popular topics. That might involve adding hashtags about subjects more broadly related to your business, or more targeted ones that really zero in on themes concerning your industry and audience.
Tip 3: Show your value
Think about how to frame your posts to fully display your expertise. What can your followers learn from you? What actionable tips can you offer? The key to engaging your audience is offering advice or takeaways unique to your experience.
With the right approach, you can position yourself as a thought leader within your industry. Be sure to keep an eye out for trending topics particularly relevant to you or your business, and work quickly to establish an angle that is both engaging and authentic to you.
Tip 4: Think of the visuals
A picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s especially true on LinkedIn. Posts including images typically garner twice as much engagement as those without. For business pages, image collages perform particularly well, and pictures including people receive the most interaction.
Put simply, pictures make you stand out. LinkedIn posts have got wordier in recent years, so grabbing users’ attention quickly is essential to getting your message across.
Step 5: Mix it up
Don’t become a one-trick pony. With so many ways to post, there’s lots of tools at your disposal to keep your content feeling fresh, and it’s an excellent way to test what sort of posts work best for your business.
We’ve already spoken about taking advantage of pictures on LinkedIn. Similarly, video content has been known to generate five times more engagement than non-video content. LinkedIn Live and LinkedIn Audio events let you broadcast videos and audio conversations, giving your output a dynamic edge capable of producing 24 times more engagement.
