Having worked with the UK business for more than six years, and managing ad hoc projects in Europe during this time, The Think Tank has been appointed as Formica Group’s PR and Media Agency for Europe.
Italian architectural firm, Massimiliano Fuksas, has designed 18 Septemberpleinin, Eindhoven, a major square in the city. It is the connection between the central station area and the main shopping district of the city and with a need for 2000 parking places for bicycles and providing an important flow through of pedestrians they designed an underground bicycle parking area. This left the square free for pedestrians. Two cone-like shapes provide the entrance to the parking area, created with ceramic tiles, fountains lights and glass elements embedded in the square floor. Lighting and a flow of light through the glass flooring from the parking area below creates an impressive sight at night.
The DMA has set out a new environmental best practice guide within its recent amendments to the DM Code. The new code sets out a series of guidelines covering the use of data hygiene, making environmental claims in marketing materials, sourcing of sustainable paper, certification in environmental standards such as PAS 2020, adhering to a corporate environmental policy and using recycling messages on printed materials. This covers all aspects of direct marketing and sets a series of best practice guidelines for marketing agencies and clients.

The New Designer of the Year award has been presented to Tortie Hoare for her boiled leather furnishings which appropriated techniques from medieval France and has applied them to 21st century designs.

The Mountains and Opening House by Eastern Design Office is one of the most stunning residential and design spaces we have seen this year. It is a design room for a Japanese sneaker brand as well as a residential house and is in the Takarazuka-city of Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Located in an exclusive residential district, it commands an entire view of the Osaka Plain and is built on the slope of a hill with an elevation of 330 meters, combining architecture with engineering to create a building with a level difference of more than 8 metres.
The latest installation by Arne Quinze is Camille and spans the Seine in Rouen. Stretching across the Boieldieu bridge, it divides the city and consists of an entanglement of colourful wooden beams and slats that are meant to 'provoke dialogue and bring people together'. At 120 metres long and 110 tons it is supported by eighteen concrete footings and has been erected for the summer festival Rouen Impressionnée.
The private members club Soho House has recently opened its latest club and hotel in Berline. Located on Torstraße in Berlin's hotspot Mitte district, the House has all the standard amenities, as well as a rooftop pool, a 30-seat cinema and vintage record players in most rooms. The new club is house in a building that was opened as a department store in 1928 and then became the Communist Party's archive.
Italian designer Giancarlo Zema has created a fantastic collection of stools and coffee tables combining wood and light to great effect. The Bright Woods collection for the Avanzini Group is a limited edition of 120 stools and 60 coffee tables.
The Fish House is a modern tropical bungalow designed by Guz Architects to accommodate the essence of living in the hot and humid climate of Singapore by creating open spaces which encourage natural ventilation and offer residents views to the ocean.
Dr Martens's celebrates 50 years of designing and manufacturing the famous AirWair shoe. To celebrate they asked 10 artists to record their version of a cult classic track which represents the spirit of the people who've worn DM's over the past 50 years. They also asked 10 directors to make videos for each of the tracks. Artists include Noisettes, The Duke Spirit, Dam-FunK, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, NASA, Buraka Som Sistema, The Cinematic Orchestra and more coming soon.

Arch Daily explains, 'Fayad’s “Brittle”, a School of Arts, is an exploration of responsive and adaptive form. Fayad’s programmatic elements have been organized and molded in response to the changing typography of Chongqing, China – making the design quite flexible as it can easily adapt to any change of land within the city.'
